Victor Alvelais

Victor was raised in Dallas, TX and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1991. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Norfolk, VA for his four-year tour of duty. Unfortunately, two years later he was involved in a violent altercation that regrettably turned fatal. Consequently, in 1994, he was convicted of murder and sentenced to a term of 12 years to life. Finally, on April 02, 2020; he was released to rebuild his life with his wife, Andrea. From the beginning of that tragic incident, Victor accepted complete responsibility for his fatal actions that night. Also, he continued to convey his remorse and apologies to the victim’s family through the VA Parole Board. During his incarceration, Victor worked incessantly to reform and progress his own development. He completed every rehabilitative, therapeutic, and reentry program available to him while also earning two vocational trade certificates. Furthermore, he accrued 39 college credit hours towards an Associate Degree while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. To this day, Victor remains dedicated to improving his life. He attends religious, cultural, self-help, and reentry programs when they are available to him. Throughout his incarceration, Victor labored ardently to assist his fellow offenders. He held institutional work assignments such as: Educational Tutor, Librarian Aide, and Offender Advisor. As well as, organized activities for veterans, faith communities, and self-help initiatives. Also, as a man of mixed heritage (Hispanic/African-American), Victor has acted to bridge the cultural divide among the offenders, via cultural awareness events. Also, was a member of the Group but also puts forth ideas and proposals to positively affect all the offenders. Although incarcerated for 26 years, Victor maintained and strengthened ties with his family, friends, and supporters during this time. Also, he consistently remained in contact with his first love, Andrea, who he was blessed to marry on April 6, 2016. Together, with his family and supporters, they strove to secure his release from incarceration. Once released, Victor will assume his dutiful place with his wife, family, and community. His goals as a “Returned Citizen” are to be an at-risk youth counselor, motivational speaker, and entrepreneur. However, Victor already achieved a significant goal by founding and serving as Executive Director of National Second Chance (N2C) Organization. N2C was a non-profit dedicated to the reformation and redemption of at-risk teens and adults, incarcerated offenders, and ex-offenders. Despite the obstacles of confinement Victor has led the organizations’ efforts of charitable outreach from offenders and production of its quarterly newsletter. At present, Victor is actively striving to network with members of society. He is seeking more supporters, as well as, volunteer for LIFE Sentences Organization. In addition, he is pursuing financial sponsors for his educational goals of completing his Associate’s Degree and then working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work.
